FoST Activities

FoST has been very busy since 2002 in research, development, dissemination, demonstration and promotion of easily adaptable environment-friendly sustainable technologies matched with the rural economy, culture, education, natural resources for improving quality of life as well as empowering rural community in Nepal.

2008 Activities

April 22, 2008 - Proceeding to Pokhara to organize a fuel briquette making training workshop for the 20 workers in 5-star hotel, Fulbari Resort & Spa in Pokhara. FoST team will be there for about a week.

April 9-11, 2008 - Demonstrated fuel briquettes as village fuel in Financing Village-level Energy Development Workshop organized by ADB, GVEP International and FDC in Manila from

March 25-29, 2008 - Organized fuel briquette making training workshop Kabul sponsored by EDC Program of Colorado University in coordinating with Oxus Technical Group in Kabul

March 15-17, 2008 - Organized solar cooking, solar cooker building and solar drying for the 30 students and housewives of Sundarijal and Nayapati VDCs from sponsored by the Rotary Club of Los Altos, CA.

Pulping PaperDecember 28, 2007 - January 26, 2008– Accomplished a month-long assignment for fabricating fuel briquette press and organizing a four-day briquette making training workshop in Cambodia sponsored by Kari Grady Grossman from December 28th, 2007 to January 26th, 2008. 2007 Activities

December 9-11, 2007 - Organized briquette making training workshop from waste materials at FoST, Thamel for the communities (36) of Nayapati and Sundarijal VDCs in Kathmandu sponsored by the Rotary Club of Los Altos, CA.

August/September, 2007 – Launched stove program in Sundarijal for 100 families under the funding source of Challenge us bvba, Belgium

July 2007 - Mission from One Planet Picture to make a documentary film on FoST activities for the World Challenge 2007 Awards.

June 14-17, 2007– Organized 4-days solar cooking and solar cooker building workshops for the students of Pragya English Boarding Highschool, Galkopakha. Sponsored by Peter Erwin and Brea Thomas of San Francisco, CA.

InstructionJune 7-9, 2007- Demonstrated FoST’s technologies at the Science and Technology Exhibition organized by the Global Exhibition (GEMS)

June 5-7, 2007 - Celebrated World Environment Day 2007 by exhibiting wide range of sustainable technologies in Birendra International Convention Center, New Baneswor, Kathmandu.

Briquette Training WorkshopMay 24-26, 2007 – Organized a three-day fuel briquette making training workshop for the beneficiaries of the Shanti Sewa Griha (especially handicapped, leprosy, mentally retarded groups)

April 16-17, 2007 – Co-hosted Asia Regional Solar Cooking and Food Processing Workshop in Kathmandu

April 2007- Demonstrated sustainable technologies in Sundarijal for the community of Nayapati and Sundarijal under the Rotary Matching Grant Program

January 2007 – Organized a 3-days fuel briquette making training workshop for the women group of Tikathali sponsored by Sandra, Eddy and Zoe van Gorp.

There are many other demonstrations at FoST in a weekly basis. It is a continuing process of our dissemination program. Besides above activities, we also gave dozens of briefing and presentations in Rotary Clubs, NGOs, etc. in Kathmandu.

2006 Activities

  • December 2006 – Participated in Better Air Quality 2006 Workshop in Jogjakarta, Indonesia as poster presentor on “Mitigating Indoor Air Quality through Sustainable Technologies”, December 12 to 16, 2006Workshop
  • November 2006 - Organized four days training workshop on fuel briquette making process for Balambu and Changunarayan women communities under the joint-sponsorship of Kathmandu Lady Jaycees and Alternative Energy Promotion Center, KLJ-AEPC
  • October 2006 - Three days exhibition on the occasion of Renewable Energy Technology for Rural Development in Engineering Campus of T.U. 
  • July 2006 - One day orientation and demonstration of briquette making process from the household wastes to the young environmental groups, ECCA, Jhwagal
  • June 2006 - Accomplished the assignment of designing and developing Annapurna Conservation Stoves for the 230 families in ACAP region sponsored by the King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation 
  • June 2006 - Two days demonstration on sustainable technologies including briquette making from the household wastes on the occasion of World Environment Day 2006 in collaboration with Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan Office in Jawalakhel 
  • February 2006 - Two days demonstration in South Asian Regional Workshop on Indoor Air Pollution, Health and Household Energy in Hotel Malla, Kathmandu
  • January 2006 - Demonstrated varieties of stoves in King Mahendra Trust for Nature Conservation, Jawalakhel
  • January 2006 - Organized training workshop on fuel briquette making process under the Matching Grant Program of TRF to Gamcha women community, Rotary Club of Tripureswor

FoST has also conducted research work in designing and developing solar cookers, solar dryers, heat retention boxes, solar water disinfectors, solar water pasteurizers, rocket stoves, battery-operated fan stoves, composting bin, composting toilets etc

  • December 30 and 31, 2004 - Exhibited sustainable technologies for eco-tourism development on the auspices of 34th Birthday of His Royal Highness Crown Prince and New Year 2005 at Thamel Festival, Kathmandu
  • Awareness 1September 11, 2004 - Demonstrated at the Ram Janaki Secondary School in Nayapati VDC, Kathmandu
  • July 1, 2004 - Organized a demonstration at the Bal Bikash Secondary School in Alapot VDC, Kathmandu
  • May 15, 2004 - Organized a demonstration in Machhe Gaon for the users of the sustainable technologies
  • March 12, 2004 - Organized Environmental Awareness Workshop for the trainees of Kathmandu Environment and Education Program, Thamel, Kathmandu
  • October 13 and 14, 2003 - Demonstrated wide range of sustainable technologies at the Second International Conference on Renewable Energy Technology for Rural Development in Blue Star Hotel, Kathmandu
  • Awareness 2July 13, 2003 - Organized demonstration to a group of Nayapati (an adopted village of Rotary Club of Rajdhani)
  • June 29, 2003 - Organized demonstration cum lunch to the group of Kathmandu Lady Jaycees at FoST
  • May 31, 2003 - Organized awareness training workshop on sustainable technologies at FoST for the group of Rotary Club of Yala, Rotaract, Interact, RCC and users
  • May 28, 2003 - Organized a solar lunch cum demonstration at FoST for the second batch of Rotary Club of Himalayan Gurkhas
  • April 12, 2003 - Organized a solar lunch cum demonstration at FoST for the first batch of Rotary Club of Himalayan Gurkhas
  • April 10, 2003 - Organized solar lunch for the trekkers from England, Canada, USA and Australia
  • Lunch DinnerApril 5, 2003 - Demonstration at Sunakothi, Lalitpur (an adopted village of Rotary Club of Patan)
  • April 3, 2003 - Organized sustainable technology workshop at FoST for the female trekkers of Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA)
  • September 26, 2002 - Organized joint demonstration with Center for Rural Technology (CRT) in its office at Tripureswor for ICIMOD and UNEP missions
  • September 14, 2002 - Demonstration of Sustainable Technologies in Machhe Gaon (an adopted village of Rotary Club of Kathmandu West)
  • March 27, 2002 - Lunch cum demonstration at SNV/Nepal Office in Lalitpur, Nepal

FoST Research Activities

During 2002 to 2007, FoST conducted the following research studies:

  1. Feasibility study on improving quality of livelihood through sustainable technologies, submitted report to the Rotary Club of Kathmandu West, Kathmandu, November 2002
  2. Awareness Program on Environmental Problems/Global Warming at the Machhe Gaon and Matatirtha VDC's and Solutions through sustainable technologies, a detailed study proposal submitted to the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program on May 2003
  3. Research study on techniques to make biogas technology more effective, submitted report to the Alternative Energy Promotion Center of His Majesty's Government, June 2003
  4. Conducted household survey on fuel use, drinking water and health situation in Siddhipur VDC, submitted report to the Rotary Club of Yala, July 2003
  5. Conducted household survey on fuel, drinking water and health condition at Nayapati VDC, submitted a report to the Rotary Club of Rajdhani, September 2004
